Oak Trestle Table
Ian's inspiration behind the piece
Visiting reclaim yards to purchase old oak beams and floorboards is always exciting as you never know what you might find. The single oak board used for the top on this piece was just such a find. Once back at the workshop the table idea developed very quickly. Looking through the selection of oak boards I had in the workshop, with all its natural movement and shapes, I soon had enough timber to create an early 18th century period copy trestle table with all the characteristics of a genuine one. All hand tooled and finished with my secret two stage ageing and patination process followed by french polish and natural wax.
All the timber used in the base of this table came from oak reclaimed from old lock gates from the River Witham.
